Top UK City Breaks For a Winter Getaway

As the festive season approaches, many people are looking to book their final staycation of the year. International travel remains fairly uncertain, with the coronavirus pandemic still looming across the world. The UK has plenty of holiday-worthy locations – from beach stays to city breaks.

Here are the best places to go on a mini-break in the UK.

Bath

Bath is the perfect place to go on a romantic mini-break. Your favorite Netflix period drama, Bridgerton, was filmed in Bath along with numerous other shows. Walk along the Royal Crescent at sunset with your loved one and imagine yourself living in medieval times. Head to the Roman Baths to learn all about the natural hot springs in the center of the city. Unfortunately, you can’t bathe in the historical baths because of the quality of the water. You can take a trip to the nearby Thermal Bath Spa for a much safer bathing experience.

York

York is one of the most picturesque cities in the UK. You can wander down the winding lanes of The Shambles and pop into the Harry Potter store. Or, learn what the Romans did at the Jorvik before taking a walk along the city walls. York is filled with history, culture and traditional pubs. Try a few pints from the local breweries with your Sunday Roast dinner.

London

The UK’s capital is a fantastic staycation location. You can visit the Tower of London, the British History Museum, the London Eye and Buckingham Palace. There are more than enough attractions to keep you busy all weekend long. Just make sure to pack some comfortable walking shoes and watch your step count skyrocket. London is much bigger than the other UK cities.

Edinburgh

Edinburgh is a magical city, especially at Christmas time. Take a trip to Edinburgh Castle to learn all about Scottish history. Or, head to the Edinburgh Dungeons for a terrifying theatrical performance in an underground location. You can visit the Edinburgh Christmas market in the festive season and go ice skating in the city center. Just make sure to pack your thermals during the winter as Scotland can get very cold.

Brighton

If you fancy a beach vacation, Brighton is the place for you. You can stroll along the pebbled beach and onto Brighton Pier to find some authentic fish and chips. Enjoy a few rides in the arcade before heading back into town for some shopping. The Brighton Lanes are filled with independent shops and cafes. Remember to look up and admire the artistic graffiti across the city. Or, if you prefer architecture to graffiti, check out The Royal Pavilion and grab an Instagram photo at sunset.
