7 Touristy Things to Do in New York City that Are Worth Seeing

Just reading “New York City” is enough to spark excitement and thrill within many people. The place certainly needs no context or information — everyone knows about the city that never sleeps. The Big Apple gives hope to everybody, making us dream about the future.

Have you also wanted to make a trip to one of the most exciting cities? We know what you are thinking — “but these are super touristy” they are touristy for a reason so if it’s your first time in the city, these are must sees. Feel free to skip them on your second, third, fourth, etc trip though 🙂 3 days in NYC is enough to see quite a lot (definitely not everything though!) if you’re up for the challenge and packed your most comfortable sneakers!

1) Admire the Empire State Building from Top of the Rock Observatory Deck

While everyone rushes to go up to the top of the Empire State Building, I always recommend the Top of the Rock of all of the observatory decks in the city because it has the most iconic views (where you can actually SEE the Empire State Building) rather than being inside of it. I also love the art deco touches that compliment your photos when you’re up there. It’s truly my favorite. If you only have time for one observatory desk – this is the one to choose.

Day 2: Helicopter Ride over the City

Now I know this might not be for everyone but if you’re going to get a helicopter at least once in your life, it should be in New York City. It’s truly an  experience of a lifetime and the views are unmatched.

3.) Statue of Liberty

Well, we can’t leave this off the list! You will be disappointed if you don’t get to see Lady Liberty up close when visiting New York. You can also make a visit to the crown of Lady Liberty and get a gorgeous view of the city once again!

4.) New York Public Library

The New York Public Library is truly one of the most beautiful places to see in the city and there’s no entrance fee! The Rose Room is gorgeous and there are many free exhibits. Plus the iconic exterior makes for a great photo op.

5.) Taking a Walk on the Brooklyn Bridge

This is one of my favorite things to do in NYC and I’ve been living here for 8 years! I recommend walking across the Brooklyn Bridge around golden hour (it takes about 45 min to  get across) and end the walk by grabbing and ice cream cone at one of the many shops in the neighborhood while watching the sunset in DUMBO’s Brooklyn Bridge Park.

6.) Chinatown

An afternoon spent in Chinatown is an amazing way to experience New York City. With tons of street food options and incredile restaurants, coffee shops and boutiques, Chinatown is awesome.
